The Artist-in-Residence was summoned to the studio as a participant of the residency programme. The programme demands the resident respond to therapies offered by the clinic, producing outputs that speak to the clients, the staff and the treatments and therapies they are engaged with. The Flies buzz indefatigably around the studio. They are multidimensional beings whose short life cycle is a reminder of constant renewal - their motto is carpe diem. However, everyone has a plethora of theories about why they won’t leave and what their presence represents which they all incessantly discuss. The Anthropocene is a myth or mythical land depicted by a poster on the wall of the studios' waiting room. Like Atlantis, it refers to an epoch of the earth’s history that was short lived but supposedly magnificent. Many clients come to the studio with the hope their treatment will reveal the key to discovering The Anthropocene, unlocking the mysteries of existence. Their core role is to orchestrate scenarios that reveal any deeply or not so deeply seated ill feelings harboured by the patients and staff which are then shed to ensure the effectiveness of the treatment. Dr. Kali Drinkwater was born on the continent of south Asia. Their long silver hair is usually worn in a bun at the top of her head, held in place by a tortoise clip. Sympathy The Swan was [[Dr. Kali Drinkwater's|kalidrinkwater]] ‘guide dog’ when they were blind. Since their sight returned, Sympathy began using their highly intuitive traits to perform duties such as being the studio’s moral compass and selecting the studio's [[Artist-in-Residence|artistinres]]. The latest pandemic swept across the globe. The world ground to a halt. Industries paused, restaurants and bars closed, the abattoirs spilled over with animals saved from electrocution because of broken supply chains, but as soon as they were fattened they were slaughtered or had their babies aborted because there was no room inside those slick warehouses designed for maximum output, where minimal space was allocated to a life cycle. Fewer vehicles moved around urban roads, the air smelt cleaner, birds chirped loudly, even in the centre of metropolis their calls reverberated across the brick facades. As countries locked down in succession, China, Europe, the Americas, an unprecedented wave of seismic hush blanketed the globe, and according to data archives was the quietest time on earth for two decades. The silence offered a unique opportunity to study the Earth's interior. Tremors usually unheard could be detected with clarity, researchers at Mount Etna in Sicily listened to the quiet hum of the mountain, hoping to learn something new about its behaviour. One by one, borders closed, travel between countries steadily ground to a halt. Airlines carried only supplies, post and VIPs. Trains and coaches ran less frequently. We could go nowhere. [[next|part 3]]

To stave off the irritability and looming civil unrest amongst the masses who demanded they have access to travel, a group of scientists were deployed by the state to create a technique to allow for intra-consciousness travel - that is - to travel inwards - to experience another consciousness – that of an animal or plant. The scientists involved initially believed their work was to be designated as a democratic form of introspective entertainment. In private quarters they conferred; now more than ever, earthlings were in need of this technique, to expand their horizons of comprehending being //more than human//. But soon the clandestine tactics of the state and their allies revealed the technique was intended to replace specific memories; eventually people would have no recollection of ever having travelled beyond a 50 mile radius of their dwelling. The scientists and their closest affiliates absconded from the facility taking their research and data with them to set up a clinic, located in a former World War 3 bunker in the region of Meteora, Northern Greece. They now operate as interlopers, administering the intra consciousness treatment to fugitives who seek them out. They found themselves living and working in a community, with an unfamiliar set of relations, like many other ancestral relatives who had formed similar intentional communities such as Findhorn in Scotland or Auroville in India.
